ELLENSBURG — Preseason accolades keep piling up for the Central Washington men’s basketball team and its players.

Senior Jake Beitinger was chosen as a second-team NCAA Division II All-American by the Sporting News. He is one of two players west of the Mississippi to be named to the first or second teams.

Beitinger was a unanimous first-team All-GNAC selection and a second team all-West Region selection last season, leading CWU with 14.8 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game and 41 blocked shots.

The Sporting News also ranked the team No. 7 in its preseason Top 10.

CWU returns four players with significant starting experience from last year’s team, seniors Matt Penoncello, Johhny Spevak and Giovonne Woods and Beitinger.

The Wildcats open their 2008 schedule against Multnomah University, formerly known as Multnomah Bible College, on Nov. 22 at Nicholson Pavilion.
