Local report — Seattle Pacific handles CWU soccer

SEATTLE — Joselyn Charette assisted on the first goal and scored the second to power 15th-ranked Seattle Pacific to a 3-0 win over Central Washington in GNAC women’s soccer Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.

The Wildcats managed three shot attempts, including two from sophomore Kaycie Hutchins.

West Valley grad Janae Godoy assisted on the third tally for SPU (3-1, 9-1-1). Central moved to 2-2 and 5-3-2.

First half: 1, SPU, Shannon Oakes (Joselyn Charette), 25:44.

Second half: 2, SPU, Charette (Oakes, Meredith Teague), 51:22; 3, SPU, Brandi Hamre (Janae Godoy), 80:10.

Saves: Amber Eaterbrook (CW) 5.
Central trainer Kladnik resigns

ELLENSBURG — Ken Kladnik, the head athletic trainer at Central Washington University since 2001, is stepping down later this month to become director of rehabilitation services at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital.

Kladnik’s resignation becomes effective Oct. 15.

Assistant athletic trainer Kari Gage will take over the day-to-day operations of the training room while the school decides how to fill the vacancy.

Kladnik, 58, is a 1973 graduate of Central Washington State College. The Cle Elum native earned his Master’s degree from the University of Arizona in 1975.

Wilmoth leader in Senior Am

LAKEWOOD — Troy Wilmoth of Yakima fired a round of even-par 71 Wednesday to take a four-shot lead in the Super Seniors Division of the 22nd WSGA Senior Men’s Amateur Championship at the Oakbrook Golf and Country Club.

Wilmoth, who opened with 73 and his 144 total is four shots ahead of Seattle’s Wayne Kaneko, who fired a second-straight 74 for a 148 total.

Yakima’s Russ Arbuckle is tied for 16th (79-80—159) and Grandview’s Akira Nozaka is 25th (88-82—170) entering today’s final round.

In the Senior Division, Jeff Remington of Edmonds had a 2-under 69 to grab a one-shot lead over first-round leader Fred Urquhart. Remington is at 143 with one round remaining.

Ellensburg’s Keith Crimp is in a tie for 40th at 159 after rounds of 82 and 77.

Boggess shoots age, gets ace

It was a memorable round for 75-year-old Bill Boggess on Tuesday at the Yakima Country Club.

Not only did Boggess better his age in the round, but he recorded his sixth career hole-in-one to help get under his age.

Boggess’ ace came on the 145-yard sixth hole, using a 7-iron for the shot.

Boggess eventually finished with a score of 69 in the round, not only six shots under his age, but 3-under par for the Country Club course.
PREP CROSS COUNTRY

Bickleton pair sweep invite

PASCO — Bickleton’s Junior Hernandez and Danielle Raschko swept the individual titles in Tuesday’s Jaguar Invitational hosted by Tri-Cities Prep.

Riverside Christian won the girls team title.
