CWU women edged by EWU in exhibition

CHENEY — The Eastern Washington women’s basketball team needed to rally to defeat Central Washington 67-65 in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Reese Court.

Central, which led by 12 in the second half, was led in scoring by Stephanie Wenke with 24 points. Nicole Jordan chipped in with 16 for the Wildcats.

Eastern Washington chipped away, taking the lead at 61-60 on a lay-up by East Valley graduate Jessica Huntington.

Huntington shot 80.5 percent from the floor and scored 13 points to go along with a game-high four steals.

Eastern was led by the 19 points of Julie Piper. Kyla Evans was Eastern’s only other double-digit scorer with 13 points.

Central Washington opens regular-season play on Friday against Concordia St. Paul at the Disney West Coast Tip-off Classic in Anaheim, Calif.
