Local report — Foote, Beitinger lead CWU to exhibition win

ELLENSBURG — Brandon Foote scored 25 points and Jake Beitinger added 19 points and 11 rebounds as Central Washington scored an 89-62 men’s exhibition basketball victory over the Washington Athletic Club on Tuesday night in Nicholson Pavilion.

Matt Penoncello scored 18 points for the Wildcats, who officially open their season Nov. 22 at home against Multnomah University.

Stanford alum Darin Naatjes led the Seattle-based visitors with 11 points while ex-Washington Husky Brandon Burmeister had 10.

Cashmere ends NV’s season

CASHMERE — For 73 minutes, Naches Valley’s girls soccer team shut out Cashmere’s potent offense during Tuesday’s first round of the Class 1A state tournament.

But the home team finally broke through with freshman Gabby Gonzales’ late goal, which lifted Cashmere to a 1-0 victory and into Saturday’s quarterfinals.

NV goalkeeper Whitney Shirley made nine saves against the Bulldogs’ pressure. The Rangers finished 13-6.

Highland plays at Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 3 p.m. today and the winner will take on Cashmere in the quarterfinals.

Ike, Davis winter meetings set

Eisenhower will hold its winter sports meeting for parents and athletes today and Davis’ is scheduled for Thursday.

Eisenhower’s meeting will be in the school cafeteria and start at 6:30 p.m., and Davis will start its meeting at 6 p.m., also in the school cafeteria.

• Wapato High School will hold its winter sports meeting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

PREP BOWLING

Ike 2nd, WV 3rd in jamboree

MOSES LAKE — Eisenhower finished second and West Valley was third in the season-opening Moses Lake Jamboree on Tuesday.

The host Chiefs won the jamboree.

All teams start league play on Thursday.
