News and notes

Some news and notes that didn’t make Friday’s prep report…

Some interesting tidbits from the WIAA’s Executive Board meeting last month. The three-week schedule for state basketball tournaments will remain the same next year, but 3A will move to the second week and 4A to the third week in the 2010-2012 cycle. … A five-year attendance report on state basketball showed “significant declines” in the 3A and 2A tournaments. Attendance was up in all other tournaments from the year before.

Sunnyside’s Steven Romero placed fifth in the 112-pound field in the National High School Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. Romero won six of eight matches and was the second-highest placer from Washington. Lake Washington’s Grant Haschak placed second at 215.
