Notes
ROBERTSON TAKING SUMMER OFF: Veteran broadcaster Bob Robertson, the voice of the Spokane Indians since 1999, is taking the summer off to care for his wife at their Tacoma home.
Better known as Washington State’s football voice for the past 42 seasons, Robertson began his career announcing Wenatchee Chiefs games in 1949. He has been named Washington Sportscaster of the Year 12 times.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Bears began play Thursday ranked fourth in the Northwest League in hitting (.251) and second in pitching (3.76 ERA).
Ryan Wheeler was seventh in batting (.349), having had a seven-game hitting streak snapped Wednesday night while Ricardo Taveras was fifth in ERA (2.20) and fourth in strikeouts (16).
Brewster’s Hawkins Gebbers continues to hammer the ball for Everett, ranking second in batting at .412.
INDIANS CHANGES: Spokane infielder Shon Landry hurt a shoulder Wednesday night and, after having surgery on the joint for the second time Thursday, retired.
He was replaced by Joe Bonadonna, who was called up from the Texas Rangers’ Arizona League affiliate.
The Indians also have a familiar name to some in the Northwest in the person of outfielder Jared Prince. His hometown is listed as Poulsbo (same as ex-big league pitcher Aaron Sele) and he played at Washington State.
