Bats silent as Bears lose on road

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The light-hitting Yakima Bears struggled to find a groove Monday, collecting just three hits in a 5-1 loss to Vancouver.

Singles by Clayton Conner, Matthew Davidson and Jorge Corniel were all the Bears could muster off Canadians starter Julio Ramos, who struck out eight in eight innings of work to pick up his second win.

Bears starter Andrew Wolcott allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings to fall to 2-3 on the season.

Vancouver (20-23) took a 2-0 lead through two innings of play and then tacked on two more runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth. The Canadians notched 10 basehits on the night, including 2-for-4 efforts by Conner Crumbliss and Kent Walton.

Yakima (16-27) scored its lone run in the third after a pair of fielding errors allowed Corniel to come around from first base following a one-out single.
The Bears have four more games this week against the Canadians, who lost four of five in Yakima in mid-July.
