Pate paces CWU to upset of No. 6 SPU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Amy Pate scored twice and Central Washington stunned sixth-ranked Seattle Pacific 3-1 in a GNAC women’s soccer match Saturday.

The win snapped an eight-match losing streak to the defending national champion Falcons and was CWU’s first win against SPU since 2001.

The Wildcats improved to 4-5-1 in conference play and 7-9-1 overall.

Pate scored in the third minute off an assist from Monique Cornier, then added a 50th-minute goal with Cornier and Kaycie Hutchins assisting.

Central later got an own goal for a 3-0 lead before SPU’s Brandi Hamre scored.

First half: 1, CWU, Amy Pate (Monique Cornier), 3:16.

Second half: 2, CWU, Pate (Cornier, Kaycie Hutchins), 50:07; 3, CWU own goal, 74:45; 4, SPU, Brandi Hamre (Jenkins), 80:38.
