Again La Salle goes undefeated in the SCAC and Ann Newell doesn’t receive coach of the year. what is that 3 or 4 years in a row now? they only beat Highland twice and Naches Valley twice and Connell. Oh they also beat a couple of 2A schools East Valley and Selah. And Ann Newell did this with only two first teamers! Lets see the Highland and KiBe coaches play up one league and see how they do. Coach of the year is Ann Newell and if she doesn’t deserve it please explain to me why? Is it because they are 2B school and they qualify, I wonder if they even receive a league championship trophy or do they give it the second place team.

  2. Melva George says:

Why should Ann Newell receive coach of the year…her LaSalle team is mostly made up of Sun City Striker players. They were either on the A, B, or District teams. Highland and Ki-Be would have had her winning record if they would have been made up of mostly elite team players. Can’t give Ann Newell all that credit — she had many coaches (SCS coaches)on her bench during the season. I’m not saying she isn’t a good coach—but you need to consider the teams the two other coaches worked with (returning players, depth, experience, etc.) and give credit where credit is due. A mediocre coach could step into Ann’s position and still have a good season, because of the talent, depth, and experience her team brings to the field. She is one fortunate coach.

  3. Sam says:

LaSalle has lost 4 years in a row to West Valley, how do you call that undefeated! (SCS) doesn’t mean anything, until the team has won against comparable players. LaSalle gets way too much press for winning in a league consisting of players for the most part that don’t play club ball in the off season.

    • Joshua says:

Hey Sam. Paul said undefeated in SCAC. You are correct they lost to West Valley 0-2 in their very first game of the season. Their only loss of the year. Considering the nature of this David vs. Goliath matchup I would even venture to say that even that game was a moral victory.

      • Jrmy says:

Newell won coach of the year last year, but how does her team go undefeated in league without giving up a single goal and only have two players named to first team – politics, that’s how. The travesty is this team has players deserving of recognition and again they are overlooked while lesser skilled players are acknowledged. The adults
(coaches) should be embarrassed and ashamed!!!
