November 16, 2009 by YH-R Sports

YAKIMA, Wash. — Eisenhower and La Salle will each get to host a second straight playoff game on its home field this weekend, as the state’s high school football teams move into quarterfinal play.

The Cadets, who ran their record to 11-0 with a 27-21 victory over Columbia Basin Big Nine rival Southridge last Friday, will face perennial Class 4A contender Ferris (8-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zaepfel Stadium.

Also at 1 p.m. that day, La Salle, second-ranked among the state’s Class 2B football teams, will be playing DeSales at the Lightning’s home field, Marquette Stadium. The game will be a rematch of their Sept. 4 season opener in which La Salle, now 11-0, won 20-0 over DeSales. But the Irish (7-3) are on a roll and trounced White Swan 48-7 last weekend.

In Class 2A, No. 1 Ellensburg (11-0) will face No. No. 7 Mark Morris (10-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at Kennewick’s Lampson Stadium.

Vea repeats as first-team all-GNAC

Junior Brandie Vea has been named to the all-GNAC volleyball first team for the second consecutive year, and three others also received recognition on the all-conference squad, released Monday by the conference.

Vea was a first-team all-GNAC pick after leading the conference in digs as a junior. She totaled 601 digs in her 103 sets played for an average of 5.83 per set, marking the second straight season she had 600 digs or more.

Vea established single-season (626) and single-match (50 vs. Sonoma State) school records for digs during her sophomore season in 2008, and earlier this season, set the CWU career record for digs with 1,411 digs.

Noel posts fifth hole-in-one

This hole-in-one thing is becoming old hat for Jim Noel of Yakima, whose ace Saturday at Westwood West Golf Course was his fifth.

Noel’s feat came on the 167-yard 11th hole — that would be the second hole for those players accustomed to playing nine — and he used a 5-iron. The ace was witnessed by playing partners Bob Mott and Paul Almeida.Ike, La Salle both at home Saturday

Why are playoffs not played on neutral ground? Two playoff games on your home field is Biased. It is blatantly unfair. Any out come is suspect and the kids deserve more than that after such a great season.
