Montana Tech drops Central women

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Jessie DePell scored 31 points and Montana Tech rolled past Central Washington 61-53 in a non-conference women’s basketball game Thursday night in Nicholson Pavilion.
DePell, a 6-foot senior from Spokane, made 11 of 20 shots including 2 of 3 from 3-point range, in leading the NAIA Orediggers (8-2).
Central (1-5) got 12 points from Sophie Russell and 10 from Brittany Duerr.
The Wildcats led 35-32 with 16:09 to play, but Montana Tech staged an 11-0 run. Central didn’t score again until the 9:39 mark.
CWU was within 55-51 with 1:25 left after a 3-pointer by Brooke Fernandez, but the Diggers converted six straight free throws — four by DePell — to close it out.
Shaina Afoa had nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Wildcats, who host Cal State East Bay at 2 p.m. Saturday.
