Rec Notes: Zillah, WV fifth-graders win titles

YAKIMA, Wash. — West Valley’s Xtreme girls team and Zillah’s boys won fifth-grade titles in recent youth basketball tournaments.

West Valley’s girls took first in the 15th annual Thanksgiving tournament in Yakima, defeating Zillah in the championship game to finish 4-0.

Team members are Alexa Burns, Llesenia Massey, Burnadette Yates, Natalie Nagle, Nicole Rasmussen, Bella Roberts, Elly Teske, Kaitlyn Gasseling, and Olivia Reyes. The team is coached by Rico Reyes and Keely Teske.

The Zillah boys won the Future Classic in Pasco last weekend, posting a 5-0 record with a 40-25 win over Pasco in the title game.

Team members are Treyden Delp, Nathan Whitaker, Beaudry Widner, Ryan Slack, Parker Sandlin, Jacob Tilley, Taylor McDonald, Josh Kehoe, Payton Whitaker, and Nathan Koerner.  The team is coached by Eli Whitaker.

Trapshooting

Switzer named to All-Star team

YAKIMA, Wash. — Thirteen-year-old Jake Switzer of the Yakima Valley Sportsman’s Club was named to the Pacific International Trapshooting Association’s Junior Second All-Star team. The team is for shooters 17 and under.

Switzer was one of the top 10 shooters from seven states and British Columbia. To qualify for the team you must finish the season with the highest combined averages for singles, doubles and handicap events.
