Silver lining for Parsons
January 29, 2010 by YH-R Sports
ASPEN, Colo. — Last year, Joe Parsons came to the Winter X Games and knocked off the favorite to capture the gold medal in the snowmobile freestyle event.
This time around, Parsons was the one with the target on his back and Justin Hoyer took dead aim at the defending champion.
Hoyer turned in the two best scores of the night, with Parsons trailing just behind to wind up with a silver medal in Thursday’s event.
Hoyer set the pace in the first round of competition with a score of 84.33 points.
Parsons, from Yakima, had a score of 84.00 in his first ride, tied with Levi LaVallee, the man Parsons beat in this event last season.
In his final ride, Parsons could only manage a score of 83.66, leaving him short of his goal to repeat.
Hoyer sealed his victory with an impressive score of 87.00 in his final ride.
Parsons will have two other shots at Winter X Games gold when he competes in the best trick event today, and the knock out competition Sunday. Both events will be part of ESPN’s Winter X Games coverage both days.

Jon Clift scored 13 points and Humberto Perez and J.C. Cook had 11 each for the Wildcats, who shot 55 percent (15 for 27) over the second half and 50 percent (28 for 56) for the game.
