Latest Yakima River fishing report
April 19, 2010 by Scott Sandsberry
YAKIMA, Wash. — Jim Gallagher at the Yakima Fly Shop in Cle Elum has sent out his Yakima River fishing report for the week of April 19. Here it is:
The warm weather has created run-off from the Teanaway River valley, having made the Yakima River discolored below its confluence. The Yakima River above the Teanaway remained clear and low. As a result, the upper Yakima was a busy place this past weekend. The March brown duns continued to hatch about 1 p.m. and lasted anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. We have also been seeing golden stone adults and the salmon fly nymphs are very active migrating towards shore. We expect the March brown duns to continue hatching over the next week.
The weather forecast for this upcoming week predicts cooler over night temperatures and daytime highs in the 50s. This should curb the snow melt somewhat, making the Teanaway less of a factor contributing to the discolored water. Week of fishing with many different insects being active.
Thanks, Jim. And happy fishing to all. Or, as Jim would say, “Tight lines!”
