Local Report: Beetles win at Firecracker

YAKIMA, Wash. — Will Scott and Jens Jensen had two RBI each and Bobby Clements pitched a complete game to lift the Yakima Pepsi Beetles to a 5-0 victory over the Clark County Coyotes on the opening day of the Firecracker Tournament on Thursday at Parker Field.

The Beetles (18-19-1) scored all of their runs in the fifth inning.

Jackson Marquis and Markus McClurkin each had had two hits for the tournament hosts.

In other games, Puget Sound Roxx — the tournament’s defending champion — beat the Washington Brewers 13-3; Seattle Select defeated Power Alley 7-3 and Bellevue Honda knocked off the Spokane Heat 9-1.

Tournament play is scheduled to continue today, with the Beetles facing Spokane at 7 p.m.

Yakima Valley falls to hosts

RENO, Nev. — A three-run first inning wasn’t enough for the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak as they lost to the Reno Knights 5-3 at the Josh Anderson Memorial Tournament on Thursday night.

Trent Douglass had a two-run single and Garrett Olson knocked in the other run to lead the Pak (17-10).

Cory Urquhart was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored; Tyler Galloway had the Pak’s other hit.

Tournament play continues today when Yakima Valley faces Petaluma, Calif., at 3 p.m.

Twin City sweeps Beetles

Marcus McClurkin scored three times in the opener, and had two hits and a double in the nightcap, but the Beetles were swept by the Twin City Titans 20-10 and 10-7 in a Central Washington League Senior Legion doubleheader that ended late Wednesday night at Parker Field.

First-place Twin City swept back-to-back doubleheaders from Yakima to improve to 9-3 in league. Yakima fell to 8-6 in league and 17-19-1 overall.

Jones, Steele lift Eagles

Shane Jones went 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Trent Steele was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Yakima Eagles past Yakima Craft Brewing 9-1 on Thursday at Kiwanis Park.

Tony Cox led Yakima Craft Brewing, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Late Wednesday, Mark Seward threw a complete game and also homered and drove in two runs to lead Yakima Craft Brewing to a 6-3 victory over Action Towing.

Also Wednesday, JRW & Associates got three RBI from Jason Grow in a 12-5 victory over Old Town Pump-Peak Performance.
