Reds earn shutout against Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — Goalkeeper Claudio Lazar stopped 14 shots and the Yakima Reds earned their third shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over Spokane in PDL Northwest play Thursday night.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the break, the Reds broke the game open in the second half with goals by Warlen Silva and Vini Oliveira. Yakima beat the Spiders 6-2 at Marquette Stadium last week.

“We came to get the win and the three points and we got that done,” said Yakima coach Alex Silva, whose team improved to 4-8 with 12 points. “We attacked on offense and played disciplined defense.”

It wasn’t all good news for the Reds. Forward Abdulwali Aman scored Yakima’s first-half goal but suffered a leg injury on the play. Silva said he was taken to a hospital for further evaluation and his status for Saturday’s match at Kitsap is uncertain.
