Bears capitalize on Boise miscues

September 5, 2010 by

BOISE, Idaho — Yakima’s offense remained stuck in neutral, but that didn’t hurt the Bears on Saturday thanks to a sloppy effort from the Boise Hawks and an unusual two-run sacrifice fly.

Boise committed five errors — with three of them contributing to Yakima’s scoring — as the Bears prevailed 3-2.

None of Yakima’s runs were earned as the visitors generated just enough offense to back a strong pitching effort, anchored by starter Brad Wilson (3-3), who allowed a run and four hits in six innings.

Justin Albert allowed two hits in a scoreless seventh, and Eury De La Rosa finished with two innings of perfect relief, striking out three, to record his ninth save.

Yakima broke a 1-1 tie with two in the seventh, starting when Michael Weber reached on a one-out error. Westley Moss then singled, sending Weber to third, and Moss took second on another error. Both then scored on Michael Freeman’s sacrifice fly to right.

After the regular-season finale today, Yakima returns home to open its best-of-three division series with Spokane on Monday at Yakima County Stadium.
