Bears end regular season on high note

September 5, 2010 by

BOISE, Idaho — Michael Weber’s home run and five additional second-inning runs propelled the Yakima Bears to a 9-2 regular-season-ending victory over the Boise Hawks on Sunday night at Memorial Stadium.

The second-inning outburst was more than enough support for starting pitcher Teo Gutierrez (2-0) who worked six innings and allowed just an unearned run.

Following Weber’s fourth blast of the season, the Bears used two-out, two-run singles from Yazy Arbelo and Raywilly Gomez and an RBI double from Henry Zabala to put the game out of reach.

In the first inning, Zabala drove in the Bears’ first run with a sacrifice fly.

Zach Walters scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Gomez came home on a sacrifice fly in the seventh to complete the scoring for the Bears.

Juan Serrano (5-4) worked 12/3 innings for Boise, allowing seven runs on five hits.
