Ferrari drives WV past Sunnyside

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. — Justin Ferrari ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns, the final a game-clinching 92-yard dash with 1:42 to play, as West Valley downed Sunnyside 22-12 in CBBN 3A play Friday night.

Ronney Peckman’s 7-yard TD in the third-quarter, combined with David Ellis’ conversion kick, had given the Rams a 15-12 lead over the Grizzlies, who played without rushing standout Steven Monterrey due to a knee injury.

Sunnyside had taken a 12-7 advantage on the second of two Eduardo Salmeron to Joseph Contreras scoring strikes. The first covered 67 yards in the opening period and the second went for 61 yards.

Bo Voelker added 70 yards on eight carries for WV. Ramon Hernandez had 100 yards on 18 rushes for the Grizzlies, who also got 255 air yards from Salmeron of 10 of 22 passing.

Contreras finished with six catches for 200 yards.

West Valley continues league play at home next Friday against Kamiakin.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Eisenhower’s offense started quickly and never let up in their non-league game against Evergreen on Friday night.

Quarterback Kolney Cassel threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns — four to Denzel Jones — and running back Trevon Harris ran for 139 yards and three second-half touchdowns as the Cadets rolled to a 55-31 victory at McKenzie Stadium.

Ike (3-1 overall) never trailed and finished with 566 yards in total offense.

Cassel was 23 of 41 with no interceptions. He hooked with Jones 10 times, with the receiver finishing with 138 yards, including TD grabs of 6, 40, 13 and 5 yards. Cassel also threw a 17-yard scoring pass to Jason Easter.

Ike led 12-0 after one quarter and 20-3 at halftime, and Harris helped seal the win with scoring runs of 40, 4 and 16 yards in the second half.

Evergreen tried to stay close behind the running tandem of Justin Straup and Ramone Ortiz, who both topped 100 yards on the ground and combined for 239 rushing yards and a touchdown each. Evergreen finished with 459 yards in total offense in the shootout.

Bennett was 8 of 9 for 131 yards, connecting with Michael Wyatt (60 and 15 yards) and Kody Graham (9) on scoring passes. Bennett added 57 yards rushing, including a 24-yard TD burst.

Wyatt and Graham also had special-team scores, with Wyatt returning the opening kickoff 70 yards and Graham going in from 40 yards on a punt return.

Grandview’s Derek Swearingen threw two touchdown passes but he was also intercepted three times.

GRANGER, Wash. — Francisco Cuevas scored three consecutive touchdowns to key the Warriors’ rally past the Spartans.

Granger led 21-0 in the second quarter before Cuevas’ first score, on a 31-yard run, cut the lead to 21-7 at intermission. Cuevas followed with a 2-yard run and then caught a 47-yard pass from Jared Sabin for another score, after which Jonathan Abarca added a two-point conversion run.

Abarca later scored from 10 yards out to close the scoring.

Caleb Resendez ran for 154 yards and a score for Granger while Cuevas finished with 169 rushing yards.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Quarterback Kolney Cassel threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns — four to Denzel Jones — and running back Trevon Harris ran for 139 yards and three second-half touchdowns as the Cadets rolled to the non-league victory.

Ike (3-1 overall) never trailed and finished with 566 yards in total offense.

Cassel was 23 of 41 with no interceptions. He hooked up with Jones 10 times for 138 yards, including TD grabs of 6, 40, 13 and 5 yards. Cassel also threw a 17-yard scoring pass to Jason Easter.

GRANDVIEW, Wash. — Matt Bennett threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to power Ellenburg.

Bennett was 8 of 9 for 131 yards, connecting with Michael Wyatt (60 and 15 yards) and Kody Graham (9) on scoring passes. Bennett added 57 yards rushing, including a 24-yard TD burst.

Wyatt and Graham also had special-team scores, with Wyatt returning the opening kickoff 70 yards and Graham going in from 40 yards on a punt return.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Isaac Anderson broke open a scoreless game with a pair of third-quarter touchdown runs, the first covering 54 yards, as fourth-ranked Prosser pulled away.

Anderson finished with 121 yards on 11 carries.

Diego Magana added 94 yards rushing, including a 1-yard TD run, and quarterback Ryan Fassler was an efficient 17 of 22 for 203 yards and a score as the Mustangs ripped off 34 unanswered points.

WAPATO, Wash. — Quarterback Dallas Bassett and Cody Berens hooked up on long scoring passes of 50 and 42 yards, and Darren Hodges and Antonio Mendez both added long scoring runs to lead Quincy.

Hodges scored on a 50-yard run, and Mendez on a 42-yard sprint.

Jamie De La Torre caught a pair of scoring passes from Efren Diaz for Wapato. The throws covered 34 and 8 yards.
