Boys basketball — Zillah tops NV, avenges lone SCAC loss

NACHES, Wash. — Brady Widner scored 15 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday night as seventh-ranked Zillah outlasted No. 2 Naches Valley 74-68 in a key SCAC West boys matchup.
The Leopards’ victory avenged an earlier loss to the Rangers and boosted them into first place tie with Granger at 5-1. Zillah is 13-2 overall.
NV slipped to 6-2 and 14-2.
Ricky Cuellar also scored 18 points for Zillah while Robert Slack had 14 and Dee Villanueva and Derrell Pascal added 10 apiece.
Derek Huck led NV with 23 points while Thane Pierson had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Jeremy Gaudette had 15 points and 15 boards.
The Leopards, up 17-8 after the first quarter, took a 43-39 lead into the fourth quarter and maintained their advantage largely from the foul line.
Widner, a sophomore, scored nine fourth-period points from the stripe.
GRANGER 64, GOLDENDALE 55: At Granger, Andrew Reddout and Brandon Castro scored 21 points each as the fourth-ranked Spartans maintained a first-place tie with Zillah.
Christian Ochoa added 10 points for Granger while Devon Casey topped the Timberwolves with 20.

CHIAWANA 67, EISENHOWER 38: At Chiawana, Jordan Downing’s 14 points and 11 rebounds led the Riverhawks.
Tony French followed up his 22-point effort against Davis on Saturday with 18 points.

KAMIAKIN 60, WEST VALLEY 44: At Kamiakin, the Braves jumped out to a 28-14 halftime lead and improved to 9-0 in league.
Austin Strock and Jason Dresker scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Rams, who play at Sunnyside on Friday.

TOPPENISH 77, EPHRATA 48: At Ephrata, Randy Isadore scored a game-high 21 points and Shannon Isadore added 16 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds as the Wildcats rolled to the victory.
Randy Isadore had 16 of his points in the second half, keyed by four 3-pointers.
Kyle Jamison chipped in 12 points for Toppenish and Sal Godino had 11.
ELLENSBURG 77, WAPATO 63: At Ellensburg, Reece Ravet scored 19 points in his first game back from a bout with mononucleosis to lead the 10th-ranked Bulldogs.
Nick Gigstead scored 17 points and freshman Garrett Hull had 13 along with five assists and five steals. Five Ellensburg players — Gigstead, Graham, Hull, McGregor Mitchell and Matt Bennett — grabbed five rebounds each.
GRANDVIEW 58, SELAH 41: At Selah, Brandon Curtis and Kiki Mendoza teamed for 33 points to power the Greyhounds.
Curtis had 18 points and Mendoza 15 for Grandview while Andrew Gonzalez scored 11 points and Cody Roberts 10 for the Vikings.
PROSSER 45, EAST VALLEY 41: At Prosser, Mason Schutt’s driving layup with seven seconds to play gave the Mustangs a three-point lead and Prosser went on to the victory.
Kyle Kilian led the Mustangs with 10 points. Victor Davila paced EV with 10.

RIVERSIDE CHRISTIAN 66, KITTITAS 45: At Riverside Christian, Tucker Jones had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and the Crusaders outscored the Coyotes 18-5 in the third quarter to take control.
Nate Van Tuinen had 16 points and Josh Cowin added 14 for RC, while Kittitas’ Isaac Johnson scored a game-high 21 points.
NON-LEAGUE
BICKLETON 64, KIONA-BENTON JV 55: At Kiona-Benton, Jay Jay Bates made four 3-pointers and scored 21 points as Bickleton improved to 4-8.
