Boys roundup: Rams fend off Grizzlies

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. — Jalen Peake made all six of his free-throw attempts in the final period and finished with 20 points as West Valley held off Sunnyside for a 56-55 victory in CBBN 3A play Friday night.

Austin Strock led the Rams (6-4, 10-5) with 22 points, and teammate Jason Dresker pulled down 10 rebounds.

Israel Manzo made 10 of 12 free throws and scored 25 points for Sunnyside (3-6, 8-7). Manzo had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

DAVIS 62, WALLA WALLA 50: At Walla Walla, Wash., LeVonte Allen’s double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds helped the second-ranked Pirates improve to 8-0 in league and 13-2 overall.

Tonight Davis will host Chiawana, which knocked off second-place Richland on Friday 66-56.

MOSES LAKE 71, EISENHOWER 43: At Moses Lake, Wash., Tony French tallied 14 points and Andy Soto collected 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cadets.

ELLENSBURG 66, EAST VALLEY 45: At Ellensburg, Wash., freshman Garrett Hull scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, including nine during a 26-9 third-period rally for the Bulldogs. Hull added five rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Nick Gigstead added 15 points for Ellensburg, which lost Reece Ravet in the first half to a sprained ankle.

QUINCY 61, TOPPENISH 49: At Quincy, Wash., Jacob Durfee scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Jackrabbits knocked off eighth-ranked Toppenish.

Sal Godino scored 14 points and gathered four rebounds to lead Toppenish.

GRANDVIEW 59, OTHELLO 52: At Othello, Wash., Salvador Escobedo scored 25 points to lead the Greyhounds.

PROSSER 39, EPHRATA 37: At Ephrata, Wash., Mason Schutt scored 14 points to lead the Mustangs to the victory. Ephrata’s Tyler Clark led all scorers with 15 points.

ZILLAH 69, CLE ELUM 28: At Cle Elum, Wash., Dee Villanueva scored 15 points and Ricky Cuellar added 10 as the seventh-ranked Leopards rolled.

Jace McKay and Brady Widner dealt six assists apiece for Zillah, which led 24-4 at the end of the first quarter.

GRANGER 71, HIGHLAND 49: At Cowiche, Wash., Brandon Castro and Andrew Reddout combined to score 27 points and lead the Spartans.

Highland’s Tanner Christensen led all scorers with 20 points.

NACHES VALLEY 50, LA SALLE 41: At Yakima, Wash., Derek Huck and Thane Pierson combined for 31 points for the third-ranked Rangers, who hit a pair of late 3-pointers.

KIONA-BENTON 48, MABTON 41: At Benton City, Wash., Dalton Morgan scored 15 points as the Bears held off the Vikings in the East Division game. Mabton was led by Josh Sanchez, who scored 13 points.

WHITE SWAN 91, KITTITAS 48: At White Swan, Wash., Lawrence Fiander put together 29 points, eight assists and eight steals and Alex Sampson added 19 points, eight assists and four steals for the fourth-ranked Cougars.

SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 74, YAKAMA TRIBAL 40: At Sunnyside, Wash., Trevor Wagenaar scored 21 points and Brandon Broersma totaled 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots for the Knights.
