College basketball: Royal, Henton lead YVCC

YAKIMA, Wash. — Amir Royal poured through 28 points and Dabrail Henton added 18 as Yakima Valley subdued Blue Mountain 94-86 in an East Region men’s game Friday night in Sherar Gym.

Johnnie Diggs had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Yaks, who broke from a 33-33 halftime tie to improve to 4-1 in the region and11-6 overall.

The Timberwolves fell to 0-5 and 4-11.

Royal connected on 10 of 18 field goal attempts and didn’t miss in eight tries from the foul line.

YVCC shot 51 percent from the field (36 of 71) compared with BMCC’s 46 percent and outrebounded the T-wolves 46-34, offsetting 21 turnovers.

Dallin Molina was Yakima Valley’s top board man with nine while also dealing four assists.

Ryan Strand scored 22 points to lead Blue Mountain.

The Yaks continue region play today at home against Treasure Valley, with the women scheduled for 2 p.m. and the men to follow at 4.
