<p>ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Kevin Walkenhauer, a senior from West Valley, was one of six Central Washington baseball players to receive All-GNAC acclaim Tuesday.</p>
<p>Walkenhauer, who pitched and also played second base, shortstop and left field this past season, made the second team. He batted .316 with a team-leading 15 doubles. On the mound, Walkenhauer was 3-3 with a 5.93 earned run average.</p>
<p>Catcher Jake Hammons made the first team while outfielders Anthony Sanelli and Ricky McKinney joined Walkenhauer on the second team. All were seniors.</p>
<p>Senior third baseman Kevin Schneider junior outfielder Chance Plutt received honorable mention.</p>
<p>CWU finished the season 8-24 in conference play and 14-36 overall.</p>

<p>Washington State University will host A Night With Cougar Athletics on Friday night at La Chateau at 15 North Naches Ave.</p>
<p>The event, which will feature speeches by WSU coaches and recently hired athletic director Bill Moos, will begin at 5:30 with a social hour and silent auction. Dinner and a live auction will start at 6:45.</p>
<p>Tickets are $50 for athletic-foundation members and $65 for non-members. Table sponsorships also are available.</p>

<p>ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Jake Hammons struck out six in 6 2/3 innings to help Central Washington claim a 4-2 victory over Montana State Billings and a split of the teams’ season-ending doubleheader at Tomlinson Field.</p>
<p>Montana State Billings won the opener 12-10.</p>
<p>Central finished with an 8-24 GNAC record, tied for fourth with Montana State Billings, and a 14-36 overall mark. The Yellowjackets were 11-35 overall.</p>
<p>Kevin Walkenhauer, the West Valley High graduate, capped his college career by going 5-for-8 with five RBI in the doubleheader.</p>
<p>Hammons came within an out of a complete-game victory, but he left after loading the bases. Freshman Jordon Wakefield struck out Kevin Zukaitis to preserve the win and earn the save.</p>
<p>In the opener, Central had a season-high seven errors, and the Wildcat offense stranded 14 runners and grounded into three double plays.</p>

<p>NAMPA, Idaho — Central Washington’s Raquel Gonzalez, a senior from Kittitas, finished second in the GNAC women’s heptathlon Tuesday.</p>
<p>Gonzalez had a strong finish to the two-day competition, totaling 4,327 points in the seven events.</p>
<p>In the men’s decathlon, Bickleton freshman Andrew Venema finished 12th.</p>

<p>Saint Martin’s went ahead 3-0 before Central had its first turn at bat. Central would have to wait until a fourth-inning double steal and an RBI groundout by Sean Murphy to score their first two runs of the day.</p>
<p>Saint Martin’s responded with two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth. CWU countered with runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth, before Saint Martin’s delivered the knockout blow in the eighth with three more runs before adding another in the ninth.</p>

<p>With the match tied at 4-4, Kunkel-Patterson rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Linfield’s Sarah Watanabe in their No. 6 singles match.</p>
<p>Earlier Friday, the top-seeded Whitworth women rolled to a 5-0 semifinal victory over Lewis &amp; Clark. Katie Staudinger, an Eisenhower graduate playing for Whitworth, earned a victory in her No. 2 doubles match.</p>
<p>Whitworth (18-4) will face Whitman (16-8) in today’s noon final.</p>

<p>The Crusaders won the first game 11-4.</p>
<p>A senior from West Valley, Walkenhauer scattered nine hits and struck out four in his third start of the season, and also doubled in two at bats.</p>

<p>Brad Sharp finished as the season points champion in the pro open modified class at the Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Hillclimb Association’s final circuit stop, the Beaver Mountain Hillclimb in Logan, Utah.</p>
<p>Sharp turned in the fastest qualifying time of the day in one of the event’s two lanes. His nephew, 17-year-old David Sharp Jr., posted the fastest time in the other lane. Brock Sharp, Brad’s 10-year-old son, had the fastest qualifying time in the 120cc class and then won the main event in that class.</p>
<p>After posting third and fourth places at Logan, Brad Sharp finished atop the season points standings in pro open mod and placed third in pro master stock, fourth pro master improved, fifth pro master mod, 10th in pro stock 600.</p>
<p>David Sharp Jr.,  at 17 the circuit’s youngest pro, ended up third in the standings in 800 improved, fifth in 800 stock, fifth in 600 mod, and sixth in both 1000 stock and 1000 improved.</p>
<p>His father, David Sharp, finished second in pro master improved, third in pro master mod — after winning Sunday’s final — and fourth in pro master stock.</p>

<p>ELLENSBURG — Kevin Walkenhauer doubled in the first game and scattered eight hits in the second to lead Central Washington to a 5-4, 7-1 non-league sweep of Cal State East Bay on Saturday at CWU Baseball Field.</p>
<p>Ricky McKinney went a combined 5-for-7 for Central (8-23). Walkenhauer, a senior from West Valley, struck out three and walked none in the nightcap.</p>

<p>Frederick logs 300th CWU win</p>
<p>LACEY — Kelsey Haupert homered, doubled and drove in three runs as Central Washington beat Saint Martin’s 8-3 in the second game of a GNAC fastpitch doubleheader Saturday to record the 300th victory for coach Gary Frederick.</p>
<p>The Saints won the opener 4-3, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.</p>
<p>But the split enabled CWU to retain first place in the conference at 15-6 with a 20-11 overall record.</p>
<p>Haupert’s three-run homer in the sixth inning of the second game — her second long ball of the day — to snap a 3-3 tie and freshman Carrina Wagner followed with a two-run shot two hitters later to complete the scoring.</p>
<p>In the opener, Megan Antonovich drove in the winning run with a double for SMU (10-16, 14-24).</p>
<p>Frederick, in his 16th season as CWU’s fastpitch coach, ran his record to 300-356. He previously coached baseball and women’s basketball at Central and has 698 career wins at the university.</p>

<p>Yaks drop 2 to Columbia Basin</p>
<p>PASCO — Alisa Moehrle-Druffel hit a three-run, first-inning homer in to get Yakima Valley off to a rousing start in its Eastern Region doubleheader Saturday against Columbia Basin, but the Yaks were able to score only one more run on the day en route to a 9-3, 10-1 sweep.</p>
<p>Moehrle-Druffel finished the day 3-for-4 for YVCC, which fell to 4-8 in region play and 9-15 overall. The Yaks host first-place Wenatchee Valley for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Dunbar Field.</p>

<p>Slesk, Quinn lead Maverick rout</p>
<p>NACHES — Jordan Slesk threw four touchdown passes and B.J. Quinn twice tackled North Sound Sting runners for safeties as the Yakima Mavericks rolled to a 49-0 victory Saturday at Naches Valley High School.</p>
<p>The victory improved the Mavericks to 3-1. They have a bye next week, then will host Okanogan Valley on April 24.</p>
<p>Quinn got Yakima started with his first safety, after which Slesk threw the first of two scoring strikes to John Lobbestael.</p>
<p>Nick Daltoso returned an interception 30 yards for another touchdown and Alex Mahre added a 32-yard field goal and a 54-yard TD reception from Slesk, plus six conversion kicks.</p>
<p>Brandon Tate rushed 15 times for 124 yards and a touchdown, Slesk was 11-for-18 passing for 200 yards and Lobbestael had six receptions for 117 yards.</p>
<p>Dewayne Murphy helped the Mavs’ defense with three sacks and 71?2 tackles and Jeremy Franck had two interceptions.</p>

<p>Walla Walla won the second game 9-0, dropping YVCC to 4-6 in region play and 9-11 overall. The Warriors improved to 6-4 and 12-11.</p>
<p>Minnich’s homer followed a Yakima Valley error. Li’i Levale was 3-for-3 for the Yaks to lead an 11-hit attack.</p>
<p>Alexis Bobadilla, who relieved Walla Walla’s starter during a five-run YVCC first inning in the opening game, pitched a two-hitter in the second. Arielle Peterson got both hits for Yakima Valley, which visits Columbia Basin today for a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon.</p>

<p>BELLINGHAM — Raquel Gonzalez, a senior from Kittitas High School, finished second in the women’s heptathlon to highlight Central Washington’s performance in the WWU Multi-Events meet that concluded Friday at Civic Stadium.</p>
<p>Gonzalez totaled 4,097 points, placing only behind Seattle Pacific’s Ali Worthen’s 4,225 in the two-day competition.</p>
<p>CWU’s Stephanie Jones, Siri Berg and Mary Seidler placed sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.</p>
<p>In the men’s decathlon, freshman Brandon Roddewig of Mount Si placed fifth to lead the the Wildcats. Central’s Thomas Steinke and Scott Hunter also made the top 10.</p>
