			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>ONTARIO, Ore. — Jumping on Treasure Valley with two quick goals, Yakima Valley’s women’s soccer team completed its regular season in triumphant fashion Saturday with a 3-1 victory in East Region play.</p>
<p>The Yaks, who had already secured an NWAACC playoff berth, finished 10-5-0 in the region and 12-6-1 overall despite an unusually high number of injuries. The playoffs start Wednesday with YVCC visiting Green River (11-4-4) for a first-round match..</p>
<p>Stephani Hagberg got YVCC started with an unassisted goal in the second minute, after which Katy Allen scored off an assist from Michelle Galvan two minutes later.</p>
<p>Elizabeth Figueroa, with an assist from Grecia Carrillo, made it 3-0 in the 17th minute and Amanda Freisz recorded five saves.</p>

<p>SEATTLE — Central Washington got on the board first against powerful Seattle Pacific on Saturday, but the Wildcats nonetheless ended their women’s soccer season with a 4-2 loss to the Falcons.</p>
<p>Kelsy Villegas and Carson McKole scored for the Wildcats, who finished 8-4-2 in conference play and 9-5-4 overall.</p>

<p>ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Jordan Offutt put down 21 kills as Central Washington extended powerful Alaska Anchorage to the limit in their GNAC volleyball match Saturday night, but the Seawolves prevailed 3-2.</p>
<p>Selah’s Erin Smith added 12 kills and five digs as CWU fell 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11.</p>
<p>Central (7-9 conference, 13-11 overall) hosts Western Washington on Thursday night. Anchorage improved to 13-3 and 17-7.</p>

<p>SPOKANE, Wash. — Davis graduate Manuel Santos was Central Washington’s top finisher Saturday in the NCAA Division II West Regional cross country championships held at Plantes Ferry Park.</p>
<p>Santos, a senior, placed 31st in the 10K men’s competition, clocking 32 minutes, 21 seconds.</p>
<p>The CWU men were 12th while the women finished 21st. Alaska Anchorage won both team titles.</p>

<p>YAKIMA, Wash. &#8212; Yakima Valley got two pins and a final-match rout in its wrestling match with Highline on Saturday, but nonetheless fell to the Thunderbirds 30-16 in Sherar Gym.</p>
<p>Travis Addy (157 pounds) and Jose Martinez (184) both recorded pins while Konner Hopkins was a 12-2 winner in the day’s final match.</p>
<p>Josh and Steven Romero, both from Sunnyside, were victorious for Highline.</p>

<p>YVCC, despite being decimated by injuries this season, improved to 7-4-0 in the region — good for third place — and 9-5-1 overall.</p>
<p>Gonzales got both of her scores in the first half, with Figueroa assisting on the first and Katy Allen aiding the second.</p>
<p>Figueroa then punched home two goals within the span of a minute in the second half, the second coming off Briana Mares’ assist.</p>
<p>After the Chukars (4-7-0, 4-9-0) scored, Allen got Yakima Valley’s final tally with an assist from Alma Garcia.</p>
<p>Amanda Freisz, meanwhile, recorded six saves.</p>
<p>The Yaks continue their quest for an NWAACC playoff berth at home against Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday, then meet unbeaten Walla Walla next Saturday in their final home match.</p>

<p>NACHES HEIGHTS, Wash. — Manuel Santos finished 16th to lead a nine-runner Central Washington contingent Saturday in the GNAC cross country championships at Apple Ridge Run.</p>
<p>Santos, a senior from Davis, clocked 26 minutes, 2 seconds over the 8,000-meter course. CWU’s Nathan Minor was 30th in 26:34 and Nathan Power placed 50th in 27:23.</p>
<p>The Wildcats finished eighth in the 10-team competition, which was won by Alaska Anchorage as the Seawolves placed five runners in the top 10 including winner Micah Chelimo (24:24).</p>
<p>Central’s women finished 10th, with redshirt freshman Connie Morgan leading the Wildcats with a 24:25 clocking over the 6,000-meter layout.</p>
<p>UAA’s women claimed that title also, led by Ruth Keino’s overall winning time of 21:26.</p>

<p>The Crusaders won 25-21, 25-16, 25-21, dealing CWU its second straight loss and dropping the Wildcats to 5-7 in conference play and 11-9 overall.</p>
<p>Meg Ryan added six kills and Selah graduate Erin Smith had five.</p>

<p>YAKIMA, Wash. &#8212; Alaska Anchorage will attempt to defend its men’s and women’s championships Saturday in the 11th annual GNAC cross country championships to be held at Apple Ridge Run on Naches Heights.</p>
<p>The women’s 6,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with the men’s 8,000-meter competition following at 11 a.m.</p>
<p>Pre-meet activities will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Yakima.</p>

<p>CWU was without seniors Manuel Santos of Davis and Scott Power of Burlington due to injury. Central’s women were also missing some of their top runners.</p>
<p>The Wildcats will compete in the PLU Invitational next Saturday before hosting the GNAC championships at Apple Ridge Run on Naches Heights on Oct. 22.</p>

<p>Sophomore Taylor Kartes of Federal Way completed the women’s 6K course in 25:44 and was the lone CWU runner in the top 200 individually.</p>
<p>Freshman Ryan Loutsis topped the men with a 29:08 clocking over the 8K course while junior Matt Nodine of Ellensburg finished in 29:27 and freshman Peter Troianello of Eisenhower had a time of 30:34.</p>
<p>Central’s top runners are expected to compete in next Saturday’s Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>YAKIMA, Wash. &#8212; Brittney Newcomb scored 28 points, including six in the final 20 seconds of regulation, as Yakima Valley outlasted Lower Columbia 74-70 in overtime Saturday in the YVCC Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament in Sherar Gym.</p>
<p>With YVCC trailing 65-60 with 20 seconds left, Newcomb hit a 3-pointer. Following a Lower Columbia free throw, she was then fouled while attempting a 3-ball with three seconds to play. She made all of them to force overtime, then scored the first five points of OT.</p>
<p>Mariah Roe scored 12 points and Ariah Gonzales 11 in a game that saw neither team shoot at least 35 percent from the field and combine for 44 turnovers.</p>
<p>Lacey Seidl scored 15 points to lead the Red Devils, who held a 47-29 lead with 14:13 to play.</p>
<p>YVCC will meet defending NWAACC champion Walla Walla at 2 p.m. today for the tournament title. Southwestern Oregon and Bellevue will play at 10 a.m. with Lower Columbia and the YVCC alumni following at noon.</p>

<p>ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Behind a balanced attack, led by Luv Rattler’s career-best 15 points, Central Washington University turned back Dominican University 78-61 in the final game of the Wildcat Classic women’s basketball tournament Saturday at Nicholson Pavilion.</p>
<p>Central won both of its games in the two-day event, improving to 3-0 overall.</p>
<p>Rattler, who also had a career-high eight assists, was joined in double figures scoring by Kelsi Jacobson, who had a career-high 12 points on four 3-pointers, and Stacy Albrecht with 10.</p>
<p>Central outrebounded an opponent for the first time this season, holding a 45-34 edge Saturday. Amber Moser led the Wildcats with 10 rebounds, with Albrecht and Sophie Russell collecting seven each.</p>

<p>ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Jamar Berry scored 28 points and Drew Harris had 22 points and five assists as Central Washington overwhelmed Walla Walla University 101-61 on Saturday night in Nicholson Pavilion.</p>
<p>The Wildcats, with only seven players, improved to 2-0. They’ll meet nationally ranked Metro State on Friday night at the Northwest Nazarene Thanksgiving Tournament.</p>
<p>Berry came off the bench to hit 10 of 15 field goal attempts. Senior point guard Harris, who scored 17 first-half points, was 9 for 13.</p>
<p>Roby Clyde had 14 points, freshman guard Philipp Leiser 12 and Coby Gibler had 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.</p>
<p>Josh Henderson led Walla Walla (0-5) with 17 points.</p>
<p>Humberto Perez, normally a starter and one of Central’s top scorers, was held out of action with a minor hand injury, while Toussaint Tyler and Taylor Dunn were also sidelined.</p>
<p>Ex-Yakima Valley Community College standout Jody Johnson and 6-9 center Chris Sprinker each served the final games of their NCAA-imposed two-game suspensions for participating in a the Rip the Cut Memorial Basketball Tournament last Memorial Day weekend to honor a popular Seattle barber who was killed at age 25.</p>
<p>“We only used seven tonight,” coach Greg Sparling said, “and we played big ball and small ball. Some of the guys got some vital playing time, and we’ll be more comfortable when we go down to play Metro on Friday night.”</p>

<p>Santos, from Davis High, finished his 10-kilometer run in 33 minutes, 45 seconds.</p>
<p>Mendoza, from Zillah High, was clocked in 24:21 on the women’s six-kilometer course.</p>
<p>Central’s men finished 16th out of 19 teams, and the women were 18th out of 24 teams.</p>

<p>NACHES HEIGHTS, Wash. — Zillah’s Adriana Mendoza and Davis’ Manuel Santos were Central Washington’s leading performers Saturday in the GNAC cross country championships at Apple Ridge Run.</p>
<p>Mendoza, a senior, was the lone Wildcat in either the women’s or men’s competition to finish in the top 25, placing 24th with a time of 23 minutes, 45 seconds on the 6-kilometer course.</p>
<p>Santos, a junior, was CWU’s top male runner, finishing 27th in 26:15 in the 8K race.</p>
<p>Central’s men were shorthanded, missing three top runners due to injuries.</p>
<p>Both the men’s and women’s teams finished ninth, but will send their top seven runners to the NCAA Division II West Regional meet Nov. 20 at Bellingham.</p>
<p>Alaska Anchorage won both titles with Western Washington placing second in each race.</p>
<p>Anchorage’s Marko Cheseto was the overall men’s champion, clocking a 23:56 while Western’s Sarah Porter won the women’s title in 21:04, falling one second off the course record.</p>

<p>The win finished YVCC’s season at 7-6-2 only a year after the Yaks went  winless.</p>
<p>Magaly Carillo assisted the goal for Yakima Valley, which listed only four sophomores on its 20-player roster. The Yaks also included 19 local players this year.</p>

<p>The Wildcats won 26-28, 25-16, 25-16, 25-15 to snap a three-match losing streak.</p>

<p>Santos, a junior from Davis, had a time of 26 minutes, 19 seconds in the 8-kilometer race.</p>
<p>Also for Central, Ryan Edismoe finished 32nd (27:16), Tyler Edismoe was 38th (27:42), Jon Swanson was 39th (27:43) and Tom Johnson was 46th (28:05) to complete Central’s scoring five.</p>
