Selah wins U-18 Select title

NEWBERG, Ore. — Selah defeated the Kent Bulldogs twice Sunday to claim the U-18 Summer Select fastpitch tournament championship.
Selah needed 10 innings to beat Kent 4-3 in the semifinals, then knocked off the Bulldogs 9-3 in the championship.
In the semifinal, Selah (24-9) was led by Sarah Bersing, who had a two-run triple, Kylee Morse, who scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th and Carly Minnick, who pitched seven scoreless innings.
Kent, which was undefeated in tournament play before losing in the semifinals, defeated the Siskyou Heat to earn a rematch with Selah in the championship game.
In the final, McKenzie Zerr threw a four-hitter, while Bersing went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI and Ashley Wilkey was 2 for 4 with a double, a pair of runs and an RBI.

NV’s Taylor 7th at JOs
WICHITA, Kan. — Kelsie Taylor, who will be a senior at Naches Valley this fall, placed seventh in the Young Women’s javelin on Sunday at the U.S. National Junior Olympics at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.
Taylor turned in a best of 137 feet, 9 inches in the age 17-18 final. She reached her career best in June while winning the Inland Empire Association meet at 153-11.
Avione Allgood, the national-record holder from Las Vegas, won with a throw of 171-7.
