Local report: Snelson sweeps at Renegade

PARKER, Wash. — Derek Snelson was a double winner Wednesday night, sweeping the feature events at Renegade Raceway’s Night of Fire.

Snelson directed his Warhawk Jet Funny Car to a top speed of 261 miles an hour — just off his track record of 267 set earlier this year — in a final run set with a 6.11 ET.

The first-year track manager also claimed the Nitro Funny Car match race, topping Arctic Thunder at 165 mph. Veteran ace Twig Zeigler earned the runner-up finish.

Seward pitches 3-hitter for win

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Mark Seward threw a three-hitter and was backed by a big offensive explosion as the Northwest Naturals opened play in the North America Fastpitch Association Class A World Series with a 10-2 victory over the Kansas City Angels on Thursday.

The Naturals, who feature several players from the Yakima Valley, play again this morning in the 40-team tournament that concludes Sunday.

Pat Sagdal led the offense going 3 for 3 with three runs, while Steve Sebesta added two hits and four RBI.
