Local report—CWU men’s basketball adds big man

ELLENSBURG — Central Washington’s defending GNAC championship men’s basketball team got bigger and better Tuesday with the signing of Kevin Davis, a 6-foot-9 sophomore from Tacoma Community College.
Davis, who prepped at Todd Beamer in Federal Way, played last season for former CWU assistant Carl Howell.
He joins a returning group including Jody Johnson, Roby Clyde and Toussaint Tyler, the latter a standout in 2009-10 who missed last season with injury.
“Right now,” said Central coach Greg Sparling, “he’s a heck of a rebounder and defensive player. He can really change a game at the defensive end. To get a kid of his caliber this late is a real bonus.”
Davis originally committed to Washington, but played last season at Tacoma, where he averaged 7.5 rebounds. No other statistical information was available.

Yakima trio on all-tourney squad
Three men’s fastpitch players from the Yakima City League were named to the all-tournament team at the North American Fastpitch Association Masters World Series this past weekend.
Outfielders Tim Fischer (JRW & Associates) and Bobby Harris (Action Towing) both batted over .400 for the Cal Storm team that won the 45-and-over class. Fischer had six doubles while Harris drove in nine runs for Cal Storm, which was managed by Matt Barnes of JRW & Associates.
Tom Magers, also from JRW, played for the Seattle FP team that finished second in the 50-and-over class. Magers batted .400 and hit two home runs.
