UW softball team to stop in Selah this weekend

YAKIMA, Wash. — The University of Washington softball team, which advanced to the NCAA super regionals this past spring, will make its annual trip to Selah this weekend.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, the Huskies will hold the Purple and Gold scrimmage at Carlon Park.

The players and coaches will conduct youth clinics Sunday. Sessions will begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and a couple spots might be available.

Central shuts out Simon Fraser

BURNABY, British Columbia — Carson McKole and Danielle Brandli scored first-half goals, and Kori Butterfield made three saves to lead Central Washington to a 2-0 victory over Simon Fraser in the GNAC women’s soccer opener for both teams Thursday.

First half: 1, Central Washington, Carson McKole, 2:05; 2, Central Washington, Danielle Brandli, 32:12.

Second half: No scoring.

Saves: Kori Butterfield (CWU) 3, Amelia Ng (SFU) 5.

Clackamas slips past YVCC

OREGON CITY, Ore. — Adrianna Jones got Yakima Valley on the scoreboard first, but Clackamas posted two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 victory in a women’s college soccer match Thursday.

Jones scored in the fifth minute, off an assist from former East Valley teammate Kaylah Gonzales, for the Yaks (3-2-1).

Clackamas tied the match on Courtney Johnson’s goal in the 45th minute of the first half, and then got the winner nine minues into the second half from Yasmine Coto.

First half: 1, Yakima Valley, Adrianna Jones (Kaylah Gonzales), 5:00; 2, Clackamas, Courtney Johnson (Sandra Tinoco), 45:00.

Second half: 3, Clackamas, Yasmine Coto (Kelsie Knight), 54:00.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

Central falls to No. 16 SPU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Behind 21 kills by Cailin Fellows and 18 by Lindsey Wodrich, 16th-ranked Seattle Pacific rallied to beat Central Washington in a GNAC volleyball match Thursday at Nicholson Pavilion.

The Wildcats (1-2 GNAC, 6-4 overall) won the first game but lost the next three to the Falcons (1-0, 6-3), who won 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17.

Beetles board meeting Monday

The September board meeting of the Yakima Pepsi Beetles will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Jack-sons at 48th Ave. and Tieton Drive.

An item in Thursday’s Bulletin Board on Page 5B incorrectly said the meeting would be Tuesday.

All interested persons are welcome to attend Monday’s meeting.
