Rodeo: Alires wins saddle bronc title

YAKIMA, Wash. — Moxee’s Danny Alires won the saddle bronc title Saturday at the Pro-West Rodeo Finals at Frank Beard Arena at State Fair Park.

Alires was the only rider to record a qualified ride on both days.

Colby Reilly of Ephrata won the bull-riding title.

First-day leader Laine Baze of Goldendale fell to third after failing to post a qualifying score on Saturday.

Bareback rider Noah Bayes of Adrian, Ore., won the season title and the Pro-West saddle with his two-go total of 156, edging Eric Mader of Keuterville, Idaho, by two points.

Other winners Saturday included, Brad Goodrich of Hermiston, Ore., (tie-down roping); Jennifer Frohman of Yelm (breakaway roping); Dakota Eldridge of Elko, Nev., (steer wrestling); Tyler Shannon of Caldwell, Idaho, and Todd Cleveland of Lewiston, Idaho, (team roping); Jordan Crossley of Hermiston (barrel racing).

Wildcats sweep Saint Martin’s

LACEY, Wash. — Jordan Offutt and Meg Ryan combined for 26 kills Saturday night as Central Washington swept Saint Martin’s 3-0 in a GNAC volleyball match in Marcus Pavilion.

Offutt finished with 15 kills and Ryan had 11 along with 18 digs as CWU (3-4 GNAC, 9-6 overall) snapped a two-match losing streak.

Carlee Marble totaled 26 assists and 18 digs for the Wildcats.

CWU highlights: Jordan Offutt 15 kills; Meg Ryan 11 kills, 18 digs; Carlee Marble 26 assists, 18 digs; Devin Larson 15 assists; Kaely Kight 15 digs; Chelsie Vea 12.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Central ties MSU Billings

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Amy Pate scored in the 89th minute Saturday as Central Washington tied Montana State Billings 1-1 in GNAC women’s soccer action.

Kori Greenback made 11 saves for the Wildcats, who slipped to third in the conference at 4-1-1 and are 5-2-3 overall. MSUB took over sole possession of second place at 4-0-2 and 7-1-2.

Jaucelyn Richter scored in the 46th minute for the Yellowjackets, who appeared to have tallied the winning goal with about two minutes left in the second overtime but were called for an offside violation.

CWU’s leading scorer, Carson McKole, was red-carded with about four minutes left, leaving the Wildcats with only 10 players.

First half: No scoring.

Second half: 1, MSUB, Jaucelyn Richter (Heidi Greenback), 46:00; 2, CWU, Amy Pate (Sydney Coleman, Miranda Heslep), 89:00.

COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY

Minor, Santos lead CWU at Bowles

SALEM, Ore. — Nathan Minor and Manuel Santos were Central Washington’s top finishers in the men’s competition of the 37th Charles Bowles Invitational cross country meet hosted by Willamette University.

Minor was 48th, completing the 8K course in 25 minutes, 51.52 seconds while Santos, a senior from Davis, was 75th in 26:32.32.

CWU was 10th out of 15 teams in the men’s race while the Wildcat women, led by 77th-place finisher Connie Morgan (19:18.91 on a 5K course), did not finish in the top 11.
