Brandli lifts CWU past NW Nazarene

NAMPA, Idaho — Freshman Danielle Brandli scored in the third minute of overtime Saturday to boost Central Washington past Northwest Nazarene 1-0 in GNAC women’s soccer.

The victory, combined with Montana State Billings’ loss to Seattle Pacific, moved the Wildcats (8-3-2 conference, 9-4-4 overall) back into second place ahead of the Yellowjackets.

Sophomore Kori Butterfield, starting in goal for the first time in four games, made five saves for her fourth shutout of the year. Sydney Coleman and Amy Pate assisted on CWU’s goal.

The Wildcats are scheduled to finish their season next Saturday at SPU, which is ranked 13th nationally.

First half: No scoring.

Second half: No scoring.

Winston leads WW past Yaks

YAKIMA, Wash. — Kaylie Winston recorded a first-half hat trick, getting Walla Walla off to a fast start en route to a 5-0 victory over Yakima Valley in an NWAACC East Region women’s soccer match Saturday on the Yaks’ soccer field.

Sami Hansen and Peyton Moon added second-half goals for Walla Walla, now 13-0 in league.

Yakima Valley, which fell to 8-5 in league and 10-6-1 overall, remains in third place in the East with two final league matches this week — Wednesday at Columbia Basin (6-5-1 entering play Saturday) and next Saturday at Treasure Valley.

Central falls in 5 to W. Oregon

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Jordan Offutt, Emmy Dolan and Meg Ryan combined for 41 kills Saturday night, but could not prevent Central Washington from dropping a 3-2 GNAC volleyball decision to Western Oregon in Nicholson Pavilion.

The Wildcats fell 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 15-12, dropping their record to 6-8 in conference play and 12-10 overall.

Wallace shoots age again

TOPPENISH, Wash. — Jim Wallace extended his impressive streak of shooting his age with his round this week at Mount Adams Country Club.

Wallace, who turned 84 on Tuesday, shot an 83 on Monday, making it 14 straight years that he’s shot his age or lower in a round at Mount Adams.

Greg White and Chuck Cheek witnessed the round.
