Kent moves to 44th at U.S. Open
NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Turning in a strong six-game showing Thursday, Marshall Kent surged into 44th place after the third round of the PBA’s U.S. Open.
The Yakima bowler rolled up 1,265 pins Thursday, a 210.8 average, and now has a total of 3,670 pins — a 203.9 average — after 18 games.
The field of 394 bowlers was cut to 98 Thursday, and will be trimmed to the top 24 following six more games this morning.
Kent’s effort Thursday gives him a fighting chance to reach the top 24, as he moved within 79 pins of the two bowlers tied for 23rd place after Thursday’s competition.
Those 24 will take part in three eight-game, round-robin, match-play rounds tonight and Saturday to determine the four stepladder finalists who will compete Sunday on ESPN.
Ryan Shafer remains the overall leader with a 4,030 total.
