Colleges: Reeves, Futch lift YVCC fastpitch

YAKIMA, Wash. — Ashley Reeves went a combined 5 for 7 and Arlene Futch was 5 for 8 as Yakima Valley won a pair of non-league fastpitch games Saturday, 11-3 over Shoreline and 6-4 over Pierce.

The Yaks are off to a 6-1-1 start going into a game with the University of Idaho’s club team next Sunday.

Reeves was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored against Shoreline, then went 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored and one driven in against Pierce.

Courtney Cable was 3 for 4 in the first game and Tori Slobig doubled and drove in a run.

Krysta Beach also had four total hits, doubling and driving in a run against the Dolphins while scoring twice and driving in another run against the Raiders.

Wildcats, Western canceled ||

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Central Washington’s pair of GNAC fastpitch doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and today at Western Washington have been canceled due to unplayable field conditions, according to the Vikings’ web site.

BASEBALL

Yakima Valley splits with Lane ||

YAKIMA, Wash. — Brett Druffel scattered four hits over seven innings and Ryan King doubled, singled and drove in a run Saturday as Yakima Valley beat Lane 6-3 for a split of its non-league baseball doubleheader at Parker Field.

The Titans won the opener 9-2.

Dyllon Smith tripled, scored a run and drove in another in YVCC’s win while Jake Fife and J.R. Weigel added an RBI each.

Reid Martinez had two hits in the first game for the Yaks (4-2), who saw Lane score seven of its eight third-inning runs with two outs.

The Yaks host Vancouver Island Institute for a doubleheader today starting at 8 a.m.

TRACK AND FIELD

Central wins 4 titles at PLU Invite ||

PARKLAND, Wash. — Three members of Central Washington’s women’s team and one from the men’s squad won championships Saturday in the PLU Invitational track and field meet.

Kelsey Kreft won the women’s 5,000 meters in 18 minutes, 38 seconds; Katharine Lotze won the women’s long jump in 16 feet, 21/2 inches; and Seanna Pitassi won the women’s 400 meters (1:00.83).

In the men’s competition, Quinton Agosta took top honors in the hammer throw (168-11).
