6/14/12 Rec Notes — Naches’ Blevins gets national rifle award

YAKIMA, Wash. — Beau Blevins, a junior at Naches Valley High School and a member of the Tieton Junior Rifle Club, has earned the highest National Rifle Association Civilian award for rifle marksmanship.

Blevins earned the Distinguished Expert Award after six years of practice. Beau began shooting in 2006 and progressed through the National Rifle Association Junior Expert Qualification program.

Beau has fired consistent high qualifying scores in four positions: prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing to earn this award. All qualification is done with a 22 caliber rifle on a 50 foot indoor range.

The Tieton Junior Rifle club instructors are Robin Simmons, Jack Polumsky and Mike Cuillier.

Baseball

Yakima Valley/TSF takes second

The Yakima Valley/TSF U-14 baseball team finished second in the 2012 TSF Challenge tournament at Gateway Sports Complex this past weekend, falling to the Vancouver Mounties in the championship game.

Team members are Wyatt Pettijohn, Chase Wells, Blaine Ross, Jake King, Noah Morrow, Danny Legg, Jay Whorton, Wyatt Martz, Dakotah Eims, Jimmy McDonald, Kellen Stoffer, Ryan Deaton and Jake Haas. The coaches are Bill Wells, John Ross, Rick Haas and Ron Deaton.

Dirt Dawgs win Battle for the Cure

The U-12 Dirt Dawgs went undefeated, capped by a victory over Naches in the championship game, in the Mother’s Day Battle for the Cure tournament May 12-13.

Team members are Benjamin Albrecht, Michael Arnold, Davis Brader, Douglas Brown, Tanner Cline, Max Hagler, Sammy Hitchcock, Brendan Jager, Carlos Lopez, Riley Lublin, Shane Maybee, Waylon Pettijohn, Nathan Saiz and Eric Towsley. The coaches are Beau Jensen, Bob Jensen, Scott Towsley and Rick Cline.

WV Rangers finish second

The West Valley Rangers Little League team finished second in the Majors Division with a record of 8-2-2, and then went 2-2 in the City Tournament.

Team members are Eric Towsley, Brock Williams, Isaac McDonald, Jesse Becker, Brad Ethier, Erik Feldmann, Nick Hazen, Seth Jacobs, Riley Lublin, Daniel Olivas, Noah Pastrana and Hunter Powney. The coaches are Scott Towsley, Jim Williams and Jeff McDonald.

Basketball

Sagebrush wins Showcase

Sagebrush Hoops Blue took first place in the U-10 Elite Boys Division in the Rose City Showcase this past weekend in Portland. They beat Rainen 3’s 47-28 in the title game.

Team members are Hugo Carmona, Cooper DeWitt, James Dorsett, Kael Norris, Treyton Parrish, Isaac Perez, Matthew Ramirez and Conner Turner. The coaches are Brad DeWitt and Todd Dorsett.

Tar Heels take first at Sportsfest

The Yakima Tar Heels went 7-0, beating the Lower Valley All-Stars 18-8 in the championship game, to win the boys third-fourth grade division in the Sportsfest 3-on-3 tournament June 9-10 in Prosser.

Tar Heels team members are Lincoln Holland-Boone, Earl Lee III, Nathan Sedgwick, and D’Anthony Smith-Gary. The coach is Earl Lee Jr.
