YCCC prevails in East Region soccer opener

YAKIMA, Wash. — Adriana Jones scored twice and Amanda Freisz recorded four saves as Yakima Valley opened East Region play Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Clark on the Yaks soccer field.

YVCC, tied for eighth in last week’s NWAACC rankings, improved to 2-1-1 by rolling after spotting the Penguins a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Jones got Yakima Valley even in the 28th minute, after which Briana Mares put the Yaks ahead in the 30th minute.

Jones tallied the only goal of the second half with an assist from Kathleen Allen.

YVCC continues region play Wednesday at Lane.

Santos leads CWU at Apple Ridge

NACHES HEIGHTS, Wash. — Central Washington’s Manuel Santos, a senior from Davis, finished second in the men’s six-kilometer competition Saturday as the Wildcats placed second in the Apple Ridge Run Invitational.

Santos covered the course in 20 minutes, 22 seconds, or seven seconds behind winner Jordan Wolfe of Seattle Pacific. The Falcons took men’s team honors while Western Washington won the women’s team title.

Wildcats swept at Western

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Meg Ryan had a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs, but Central Washington was nonetheless swept by Western Washington in GNAC volleyball play Saturday night, 3-0.

The Vikings won 25-23, 25-11, 25-23.

Carlee Marble totaled 27 assists and Chelsie Vea had 19 digs for CWU (1-1 conference, 6-3 overall). Kelsey Moore had 11 kills for Western (2-0, 4-2).

CWU highlights: Meg Ryan 11 kills, 12 digs; Jordan Offutt 9 kills; Erin Smith 5 kills; Carlee Marble 27 assists; Chelsie Vea 19 digs.
