YVCC will host regional wrestling

YAKIMA, Wash. — The best junior college wrestlers from Washington, Oregon and Idaho will descend on Yakima Valley’s Sherar Gym on Saturday for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 18 tournament.

Action begins at 10 a.m. championship finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.

YVCC, coached by Mike Schmitt and Tito Pimentel, will be represented by 10 competitors including two locals, Konner Hopkins at 133 pounds and Jimmy Wilson at 149. Both are from East Valley.

Other Yaks include Jesse O’Camb at 125, Chris Pena 141, Kolton Palmer at 157, Mikey Ayala at 165, Levi Duvall at 174, Daniel Agao at 197 and Steve Taylor at heavyweight.

Competitors are seeking berths in the NJCAA national championships Feb. 24-25 at Rochester, Minn.
