April 1, 2012 by

BILLINGS, Mont. — A walkoff double in the second game of Central Washington’s GNAC baseball doubleheader with Montana State Billings cost the Wildcats both a sweep and a series split Saturday.

Jordan Carlson’s one-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Yellowjackets a 6-5 second-game win and also a 3-1 triumph in the four-game set.

It was MSUB’s second walkoff win of the series.

Central (6-6 GNAC, 10-14 overall) had ridden Jimmy Ryerson’s six RBI to a 15-12 first-game win after being swept here in a Saturday twinbill.

With Ryerson going 3 for 4 with a double and homer and David Leid going 3 for 4 with a long ball and four RBI, the Wildcats led 15-4 through seven innings and then held on.

They were later poised for a sweep, taking a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh when, off CWU starting pitcher Ryan Hastings, MSUB (4-6, 11-11) got leadoff singles from Brody Miller and Matt Comer who were sacrificed to second and third by Colby Robison.

After an intentional walk, Carlson ended the game with a double to left-center field.

Central continues conference play at home next Friday and Saturday with doubleheaders against Northwest Nazarene.
