Local Report: CWU athletes open strongly at GNAC multi-events championships

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Four Central Washington men are among the top six in the decathlon, and freshman Tayler Fettig met a provisional national qualifying standard in the women’s high jump as part of the heptathlon in the first day of the GNAC multi-event championships that began Monday at Tomlinson Stadium.

CWU’s Jason Caryl was the midway leader in the decatlon with 3,461 points, while teammate Manny Melo is second ( 3,371), Brandon Roddweig fourth (3,316) and Bickleton’s Andrew Venema sixth (3,185).

Fettig is in third place in the heptathlon with 2,792 points after four sub-events on Monday.
