Gilman lifts Pak to victory

SELAH, Wash. — Cole Gilman pitched five scoreless innings of relief and scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Yakima Valley a 4-3 nonleague victory over Hermiston in Senior Legion baseball Tuesday night at Carlon Park.

Jace VanDeBrake was 4 for 5 with two doubles in the win. Gilman scored with two outs in the ninth on an outfield error.

The Pak (13-5), which dropped the opener 7-6, resume league play on Thursday at Pasco.

Shoemaker sweeps Pure Stocks

YAKIMA, Wash. — Blair Shoemaker swept both heats, won the trophy dash and captured the main event in the Pure Stocks class during Saturday’s dirt-track racing at State Fair Raceway.

Marcie Shull-Desserault won the Hornets main and was second to Shoemaker in Pure Stocks, and Duane D’Amico (Modifieds) and Rick Milbourn (Super Stocks) were also winners.

Arbuckle scores ninth ace

TOPPENISH, Wash. — Russ Arbuckle recorded his ninth career hole in one during his round last Thursday at Mount Adams Country Club.

Arbuckle aced the 172-yard eighth hole using a 5-iron.

Jerry Besel, Mark Malland, Joel Elder and Troy Wilmoth witnessed the shot.
