Local report — Pak sweeps Hanford

SELAH, Wash. — Hugo Lemus and Koleman Johns pitched complete games and combined for 12 shutout innings to lead Yakima Valley to a 5-1, 5-2 sweep over Hanford in Central Washington League Senior Legion baseball Wednesday at Carlon Park.

Avenging two losses at Hanford on Tuesday, the Pak improved to 4-3 in league and 10-4 overall.

Lemus faced only 24 batters in the opener and finished with a two-hitter. He got all the run support he needed when Yakima Valley broke out for three runs in the second inning.

Johns fanned six in the nightcap. Steven Wagar contributed a two-out, two-run single in the first inning, and Jace VanDeBrake also had two RBI.

Beetles split with Kennewick

LeVonte Allen was 4 for 4 and Zach Alexander drove in four runs to spark the Yakima Pepsi Beetles to a 13-11 victory over the Kennewick Bandits in the first game of a CWL doubleheader Wednesday at Parker Field.

Allen collected a triple and two RBI and Alexander had a double and home run as the Beetles pounded out 13 hits.

Nathan Giles, who hit solo home runs in each game, had the lone hit in the nightcap, an 11-1 loss.

The Beetles (2-4, 4-7) play the Portland Lobos today at 6 p.m. before opening their seven-team Bob Garretson Sr. Memorial Tournament on Friday.

GOLF

Case records ace at Country Club

Jim Case scored a hole in one during his round Saturday at the Yakima Country Club. Case aced the 141-yard 11th hole using an 8-iron.

Bill Boggess, Pete Gilmartin and Glenn Davis witnessed the shot.
