Local Report: Six area players selected for All-State Baseball Series

YAKIMA, Wash. — Six senior standouts from the Yakima region have been selected to play in this weekend’s All-State Baseball Series at Yakima County Stadium.

Davis’ LeVonte Allen and Jens Jensen, East Valley’s Hugo Lemus, Ellensburg’s Michael Wyatt and Naches Valley teammates Noel Gonzalez and Cole Gilman were picked from a combination of in-season performance and results from last weekend’s feeder games.

All-State games will be played at noon and 3:15 p.m. Saturday and 10:25 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. Sunday.

 

EVENTS

Legends night set for Friday

The Parker Youth and Sports Foundation will host its annual Legends Night at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center.

The event celebrates the contributions to the Yakima Valley of Tom Parry and Betty Yaden, and will feature an auction which include items such as autographed baseballs from Bob Gibson, Whitey Ford and Derek Jeter, and trips to the Oregon coast and Lake Cle Elum.

Tickets are $25 for adults and children 15 years old and younger are $5.

LEGION BASEBALL

Beetles rained out

The Yakima Pepsi Beetles’ Central Washington League doubleheader against Kennewick at Parker Field was postponed Monday because of rain.

The twin bill has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Parker Field.

 

AUTO RACING

Riddle wins at Spokane County

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Leading the final 26 laps, Naches’ Owen Riddle led a Yakima Valley sweep Saturday in the Dr Pepper Super Late Model Sunkist 100 at Spokane County Raceway.

Riddle, who led all but one of the final 61 laps, was followed by Moxee’s Mike Longton and Yakima’s Erick Hargraves in the top three.
