Clift’s hiring at Fairbanks official; no word from SPU on Simon

Back from a few days off to see that former Central Washington point guard and assistant coach Jon Clift has officially been named the top assistant at Alaska Fairbanks.
Clift came to CWU from Spokane, where he was an NWAACC standout for the Sasquatch before becoming a two-year standout for coach Greg Sparling, after which he assisted Sparling and associate head coach G.E. Coleman the past two seasons.
At Fairbanks, Clift will assist head coach Mick Durham.
“He’s going to be missed,” said Sparling. “He played and coached in the GNAC and traveled the GNAC, so I think it’s going to be a huge benefit to coach up there.”
Clift’s move was reported in an earlier blog post here, along with word that former Ephrata High and Washington State basketballer Patrick Simon will play for Seattle Pacific. The Falcons have not announced Simon’s addition.

In Vancouver, British Columbia, the BC Lions ended their two-game losing streak last Saturday with a 34-8 win at Calgary with middle linebacker Adam Bighill leading the defense with six tackles and an interception. Bighill’s former Central Washington teammate Mike Reilly did not attempt a pass as backup to starting quarterback Travis Lulay, but rushed twice for six yards. The defending Grey Cup champion Lions are 3-2.
