Local report—YVCC spikers fall to Spokane

YAKIMA — Tori Farias produced 12 kills and 21 digs Friday night, but Yakima Valley nonetheless fell to Spokane 3-1 in an East Region volleyball match in Sherar Gym.

The loss was second this week for the Yaks, who were ranked seventh in the most recent NWAACC poll and had won at Spokane earlier this season. YVCC fell to 6-4 in the East, good for fourth place, and 19-8 overall.

Top-ranked Spokane improved to 9-1 and 28-5.

YVCC highlights: Tori Farias 12 kills, 21 digs; Samantha Harris 20 digs; Taylor Flores 20 assists; Kylie Huffman 15 assists; Danielle Najera 38 digs.

PREP DIVING

Klingele, Silvestri top dive meet

ELLENSBURG —Eisenhower’s Beth Klingele and Naches Valley’s Brittney Silvestri won their respective competitions Friday in an 11-dive meet at Central Washington University.

Klingele won the Class 4A competition totaling 300.85 points to outdistance Moses Lake’s Sammy Hendrickson at 284.25. NV’s Brittney Silvestri won the Class 2A-1A-B competition with 213.95 points.

BOYS SOCCER

RIVERSIDE CHRISTIAN 2, MOSES LAKE CHRISTIAN 1: At Moses Lake Christian, Joseph Shief scored midway though the second half off an assist by Josh Cowin to break a tie and lift Riverside Christian (3-2 league, 8-5 overall).

Luke Vickers scored in the first half for the Crusaders.

First half: 1, Riverside Christian, Luke Vickers (David Eisenhauer), 9:00; 2, Moses Lake Christian, Lowell Kirkwood (PK), 37:00.

Second half: 3, Riverside Christian, Joseph Shieh (Josh Cowin), 65:00.

Saves: Tyler Greenwood (RC) 6, Moses Lake Christian (goalie not reported) 9.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

TROUT LAKE-GLENWOOD 3, SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 2: At Trout Lake-Glenwood, Stormee Van Belle totaled 16 kills, five blocks and 11 perfect passes in the Knights’ 24-26, 25-15, 20-25, 25-14, 15-10 loss.

Sunnyside Christian highlights: Alyssa Haak 22-23 serving, 18 assists; Alexandra Newhouse 24-26 serving, 8 perfect passes; Stormee Van Belle 16 kills, 5 blocks, 11 pp; Maddy Wavrin 8 kills, 21 pp; Brittany Broersma 5 kills.
