Local report: CWU splits with Saints

LACEY, Wash. — Brett Bielec had three RBI to help lead Central Washington past Saint Martin’s 13-2 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader on Sunday.

Saint Martin’s won the first game 3-1.

CWU pitcher Jason Lotzer allowed three runs on eight hits in eight innings in the opener to take the loss.

Ethan Sterkel and Jimmy Ryerson both had two hits in the first game.

Sterkel was 3 for 4 in the second game, scoring three runs.

Ryerson was 2 for 3, while Bielec, Brady Kincannon and David Leid were 2 for 4. Kasey Bielec was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI.

CWU trades routs with Saints

LACEY, Wash. — Jen Schwartz and Molly Coppinger had three RBI each in the second game of a doubleheader to help Central Washington salvage a split with Saint Martin’s on Sunday.

Saint Martin’s won the first game 11-3 in five innings, while CWU won the second game 13-4, also in five innings. Both games were shortened by the mercy rule.

In the first game, Carrina Wagner had a double and an RBI, while Bre Thomas drove in two runs for CWU (17-27 overall, 13-19 GNAC).

Kelsie McGladrey had a home run and four RBI to pace the Saints (30-17-1, 20-12).

In the second game, Wagner had two more RBI, while Natasha Wood and Cassi Ellis drove in runs as well for CWU.

Yaks split tourney games

YAKIMA, Wash. — Jessie Ihly had four RBI, while Ashley Reeves drove in three more runs to lead Yakima Valley past Edmonds 11-2 on Sunday at the NWAACC Crossover Tournament at Kiwanis Park.

The Yaks fell to Clark 6-1 in their second game.

Ihly was 4-for-4 with a home run in Sunday’s opener, while Reeves was 2-for-4 for YVCC (13-17-1 overall, 4-14 GNAC).

Reeves was 2-for-4 in the second game and scored two runs, while Courtney Cable and Tori Slobig each had a double and triple against Clark.
